Zimplats made history after being named the inaugural winner of the Special Mention Award for Mining House of the Year at the Top Companies Survey 2025.
Although the survey has been running since 1980, this is the first time a category dedicated to recognising mining excellence has been introduced.
According to the citation, the award honours a mining company that performed exceptionally during 2024.
Considerations included financial performance, the strength and intentionality of capital investments, resilience in the face of commodity shocks, community impact, and contributions to national initiatives aimed at expanding the mining industry.
This year’s survey was held under the theme “AI for Zimbabwe: Leapfrogging from a Resource Economy to a Services Economy,” highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of global and domestic economies.
Originally launched in 1980 to recognise top-performing companies listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), the survey has since expanded to include the banking, insurance, and Victoria Falls Stock Exchange sectors.
This year, the organisers further broadened its scope by introducing the mining sector category, among other additions.
Speaking on the accolade, Mrs Busi Chindove, Zimplats Head of Corporate Affairs, said:
“This recognition affirms our commitment to responsible growth, disciplined investment, and creating lasting value for our communities and for Zimbabwe. It is an honour that reflects the unwavering dedication of the entire Zimplats team.”
